Until last week, I had never had an apple dumpling. I’ve always wanted one, but never had a chance to eat one. In fact, there is a local ice cream shop that advertises Hot Apple Dumplings on their sign every fall, but when I drive by it’s always at the wrong time of day. After seeing a recipe for Cinnamon Roll Apple Dumplings on Pinterest, I saw how easy it was to do at home. Flour Me With Love posted this recipe on Pinterest, and it is my new favorite Fall Dessert! I’ve made it twice over the last 4 days, and will definitely make it a few more times this week. The original recipe on Flour Me With Love makes six apple dumplings. I’ve been making only two at a time. Here are my measurements to make Cinnamon Roll Apple Dumplings for Two.
Cinnamon Roll Apple Dumplings (adapted from Flour Me With Love)
- 2 small apples
- 2 T. butter
- 4 T. brown sugar
- Dough of 3 cinnamon rolls from a can
- Splash of milk
- Vanilla Ice Cream
Preheat the oven to 350F. Combine 2 T. butter and 4 T. brown sugar in a custard cup. Mash with a fork. Peel and core 2 small apples. Roll out the dough of 3 cinnamon rolls to about 1/8 ” thick. (The rest can be wrapped in plastic wrap and stored for another use.) Place each apple in the center of the doughand stuff the core with as much of the brown sugar/butter mixture as you can fit in. Pull the edges of the dough up around the apple. It should cover the bottom 2/3 of the apple. Cut the remaining cinnamon dough round in half, place over the top of the apple and pinch the edges together. If any parts of the dough have separated, pinch them together, as well.
Place in a greased baking dish and bake for 45 minutes. Microwave the remaining brown sugar/butter mixture until melted. Stir in a splash of milk. Serve the apple dumpling in a bowl, topped with vanilla ice cream and drizzled with brown sugar/butter sauce.
